What are Orthobiologics?
Orthobiologics are natural substances such as cells, tissue, blood components, and growth factors that are harnessed to aid in the treatment of orthopedic injuries or conditions. They may be used to replace lost tissue, stimulate regeneration and healing, reduce pain and inflammation, and improve joint function.
Although orthobiologics may be obtained from your own body or from a donor, it’s important to know that at the AOB clinic we do NOT use tissue from other donors. Instead, we harvest tissue only from you, to be used in you. The treatment may be administered in the form of injections or may require a surgical procedure. They may be used alone as a conservative treatment or following orthopedic surgery to enhance results.

Our treatments
When rest, medications, and physical therapy fail to relieve symptoms we recommend several leading-edge treatments. Consult with us to determine which is best for you so we can get you on the road to recovery.

PRP
Platelet-rich plasma is created by concentrating the platelets already present in your blood to intensify your body’s natural healing process. After the collection of platelets, concentrating your platelet-rich plasma in our laboratory enables us to achieve a higher level of purity. A higher level of purity means your treatment contains only what your body needs to start and continue the healing process.

BMC
Bone Marrow Concentrate (BMC) or Bone Marrow Aspirate (BMA) is similar to that of PRP but with a bigger punch. BMC is created by concentrating aspirate from your pelvic bone. BMC is a rich source of progenitor cells, platelets, and anti-inflammatory mediators. These cells bind to an injury site and initiate and organize repair to the damaged tissue.

Adipose
Adipose tissue (fat) contains many reparative cells. Through a local procedure in the office we are able to harvest these cells, process them and inject them into the area of concern. Adipose tissue is a rich source of progenitor cells and anti-inflammatory mediators. These cells bind to an injury site and initiate and organize repair to the damaged tissue.

Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic, also known as hyaluronan or hyaluronate, is a non-orthobiologic injection. It’s a gooey, slippery substance that your body produces naturally. Scientists have found hyaluronic acid throughout the body, especially in eyes, joints and skin. For orthopedics injections are used for mild to moderate arthritis.
